Cooking At the Lake
Filling for Crab and Shrimp Eggrolls
Cooking at the lake is doable. If you are docked, it’s like cooking at home. If you have a houseboat or cruiser, you should at least have a small sized fridge and stove. If you don’t have a stove you can always purchase an electric cooktop, slow cooker, deep fryer and/or toaster oven to cook your favorite meals. Or just take it outside and use your grill or smoker.
We are fortunate to have a kitchen with everything we need to prepare a meal. I can cook a full meal inside, but at the lake it’s nothing like cooking outside. My grill is my best friend. Side note..if you are going to grill on your boat or dock, only propane and electric grills are permitted. ABSOLUTELY NO CHARCOAL GRILLS!
If you go to an island for the day you can always take a small grill and food that does not require cooking.
Even though I have ample space to prep my food, I always try to come with my food prepped and ready to cook, I mean, who wants to spend all their time dicing garlic! Not me!
I season and clean all my meats, veggies and whatever else. I then put everything in individual Ziploc bags. Ziploc bags make cleanup a breeze. I hate washing dishes plus I am at my Happy Place, and I want as little work as possible.
I also keep aluminum pans in various sizes to put my food in after it’s cooked or to cook in, again, nothing to wash. If I have guests, I try to have everything cooked before they arrive so I can spend time with my guests and enjoy the day along with them.
