11 Things I Can't Do Without in My Boat Galley

11 Things I Can't Do Without in My Boat Galley

When it comes to boating, everyone has their own way of doing things, especially in the galley!

If you're new to boating, one thing you'll quickly discover is that figuring out what to keep on board can take a little trial and error.

I love to cook, and having a boat doesn't change that! Whether I'm making a quick breakfast, putting together lunch, or preparing food for family and friends, I like having the things I need right there in my galley.

Now, I'm not saying you need everything on my list. Every boat is different, and so is the way we use them. But these are 11 things I personally wouldn't want to be without.

Some make cooking easier, some help with cleanup, and a few are especially handy when we have company.

So, if you're setting up your first boat galley or just looking for a few ideas, here's what works for me!

  1. Coffee Maker – My day doesn't officially start until I have my coffee while enjoying the peaceful view of the lake.

  2. Air Fryer – Perfect for quick, delicious meals without heating up the whole boat.

  3. Cooktop –

I have a fully functioning gas stove in my boat galley, but believe it or not, I rarely use it! I'm just not a big fan of using propane on the boat. I personally feel more comfortable cooking with electric appliances.

Not all boats come with propane or gas stoves. In fact, our first houseboat had an electric stove.

I do use my gas stove every now and then, but my single and double induction cooktops are what I reach for almost every weekend. They're portable, don't take up much space, and are easy to put away when I'm finished cooking.

And if I need an oven? No problem! I simply use my toaster oven or grill. My toaster oven is also compact and easy to store when it's not in use.

That's one thing I love about having portable cooking appliances on the boat. I can pull out what I need, prepare a meal, and put everything away when I'm done.

For new boaters, here's my tip: You don't necessarily need a full-size stove to enjoy cooking on your boat. Portable cooking appliances can be a great option, depending on your space, electrical setup, and cooking needs. Just make sure your boat's electrical system can safely handle the appliances you're using.

  4. Slow Cooker – I love putting dinner on early so it's ready after a fun day on the water.

  5. Ziploc Bags – Great for leftovers, snacks, and keeping everything organized.

  6. Aluminum Foil – Handy for cooking, storing food, and making cleanup easier.

  7. Paper Towels – You can never have too many on a boat!

  8. Clorox Cleanup – Keeping the galley clean is just as important as preparing the meal.

  9. Seasonings –  Just because I'm cooking on the boat doesn't mean I'm leaving my favorite seasonings behind! I like having a good variety on hand because I never know what I'll feel like cooking. Keeping everything organized makes it easy to find what I need without digging through the cabinets.

  10. Paper Plates & Plastic Ware – Less time washing dishes means more time enjoying the water.

  11. Warming Mat

This is one of my favorites when we have company on the boat. I just plug it in, lay it out, and sit my pans on top. It keeps the food warm while everyone fixes their plate, and I don't have to worry about everything getting cold before we're ready to eat. When you're entertaining on the boat, it's definitely one of those things that's nice to have!

Good Food, Good Company, and Lake Life!

At the end of the day, having a well-stocked boat galley makes spending time on the water that much more enjoyable. I love being able to prepare a good meal, invite family and friends over, and enjoy some good food and conversation.

These are the things that work for me, but every boater has their own favorites. Whether you're new to boating or have been enjoying lake life for years, I'd love to know what you can't do without in your galley!
