One thing I love about boat life is sharing it with family and friends. I want my guests to relax, have fun, and enjoy their time on the water without worrying about the little things they may have forgotten.
Over the years, I've started keeping a few extras on board. Some are necessities, while others are simply little touches that make people feel comfortable and cared for.
Here are 14 items I always keep on my boat for guests.
1. Flip-Flops
Someone always seems to forget their flip-flops! I keep a few extra pairs on the boat in different sizes so everyone can stay comfortable.

After a day on the water, especially if the weather cools off, a clean pair of socks can make all the difference.
3. Blankets
This is one of my favorite hosting tips.
Before folding my blankets, I tuck a dryer sheet between them. When I hand one to a guest on a cool evening, they always comment on how fresh it smells—like it just came out of the dryer. It's such a simple touch, but it really elevates the experience.
4. Women's Personal Care Items
Sometimes "that time of the month" arrives unexpectedly, or someone simply forgets to pack what they need. I keep a small assortment of tampons and pads on the boat so no one has to worry.
5. Extra Bathing Suits
Believe it or not, people occasionally forget their swimsuit! I keep a few extra bathing suits in a variety of sizes just in case someone wants to jump in the water.
6. Water Shoes
Water shoes are another item that's easy to forget but can make a huge difference when getting in and out of the water. Having a few extra pairs helps everyone stay comfortable.
7. Light-Up Ice Cubes
These definitely aren't a necessity—but they are so much fun!
When the sun goes down, I add light-up ice cubes to drinks, and they instantly make the evening feel more festive. It's a small detail that guests always enjoy.

8. Phone Chargers
Most people remember their phone charger, but not everyone does. I keep chargers for both iPhone and Android devices so everyone can keep their phones powered up for pictures and music.
9. Straws
I personally don't mind drinking without a straw, but I have several friends who prefer one. Keeping a package of straws on the boat is an easy way to make them feel more comfortable.
10. Drink Covers
Nothing ruins a drink faster than a bug landing in it.
I keep reusable drink covers for cups as well as covers that fit on soda cans. They help keep bugs out and let everyone enjoy their drinks without constantly swatting insects away.
11. Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a must for any day on the water. Whether we're out cruising on the lake or relaxing on the top deck of our houseboat, we're usually spending hours in the sun.
I keep sunscreen on board not only for my guests but for myself as well. Even if someone remembers to bring it, it's always nice knowing there's extra available if they need to reapply.
12. Fans
Fans are an essential during the hot summer months.
We keep rechargeable neck fans on board for our guests to help keep them cool, but I also have a collection of cute, colorful handheld fans. They're practical, fun, and always seem to be a hit on those extra hot days.

13. Dramamine & Basic Medications
Motion sickness can sneak up on anyone, especially guests who have never been on a boat before.
We keep Dramamine on board because not everyone handles the rocking motion the same way. We've even had guests who preferred to stay on the dock because being on the boat made them uncomfortable.
While Dramamine works best when taken before getting on the water, it's still something I like to have available just in case. We also keep a small supply of over-the-counter medications like pain relievers, allergy medicine, and antacids. You never know when someone might need them, and I'd rather be prepared.

I love making sure my guests feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for. Boat life is about making memories, and sometimes it's the little details that people remember the most.
Over the years, I've learned that thinking ahead and keeping a few extra items on board can make someone's day so much better. Whether it's a fresh-smelling blanket, a phone charger, sunscreen, or even Dramamine, those thoughtful touches help everyone relax and enjoy their time on the water.
